Are honeybees going extinct? The answer is no.

Updated: Aug 20

Honeybees are managed by beekeepers around the world, and their numbers are stable. In fact, honeybees are one of the most cared-for insects on the planet.

What’s really under threat are the wild pollinators—like bumblebees, carpenter bees, and solitary bees—that don’t live in hives or get help from humans. These species are vital for biodiversity, yet they face habitat loss, pesticides, and climate change without the safety net honeybees have.

So when we talk about ‘saving the bees,’ it’s important to remember the bigger picture. Supporting wild pollinators means planting diverse flowers, reducing pesticide use, and protecting natural habitats.

Honeybees give us honey, but wild bees give us balance. So next time someone says ‘save the bees,’ remember—it’s the other bees that truly need saving.”
