Ringing Back Memories.

Sometime back, I visited Dr. Anne at Hospice. While waiting for her to finish with someone, I waited at the reception area, browsing through some magazines. Suddenly the phone rang. It sounded so “Retro”. I traced where the ringing was coming from and true enough, the phone was a classic! A true blue retro phone with a dial! Imagine! You don’t see this in Singapore anymore. Moreover this is still a working set!

GGGGggrrrrrrrriiiiinnnngggg.

I think this kind of telephone vanished from Singapore in the late 70’s. I don’t think the younger generations had gotten the chance to use a telephone like this one. I can still remember the clicking sound when the dial was turning back after you had released your finger from the hole.

We had one like this but shortly it was replaced with those push buttons ones. Back then, by the time my family could afford to install a telephone, the Telecom Companies had already advanced to more modern equipment. Push buttons telephone were considered the latest model.

The receptionist was staring at me when I was taking this picture. It seems as if she was thinking out loud, “This China bumpkin might had arrived from a village deep in China. Had never seen a telephone before”.
