Studies On Honeybee Behaviour In Chiangmai, Thailand.

Updated: Mar 29, 2023

During my research on honeybees in Thailand, I had the opportunity to meet Professor Michael Burgett from the USA. We shared insights on honeybees in Thailand and exchanged notes on our findings. One of the topics we discussed was the promotion of beekeeping with indigenous species, rather than hybrids.

The honey industry experienced growth with the introduction of the apis mellifera species. However, there are concerns about the impact of this introduction on the indigenous species.

Research was conducted on the current status of the apis cerana species.

The majority of apis cerana are still kept in the traditional way, using tree trunks. I am well-versed in this method of beekeeping because, in addition to keeping bees in top bar or Langstroth hives, I also keep bees using the traditional method in Africa.

My interest in beekeeping in Asia has been growing, as the bees here are much more docile and easier to work with compared to their distant African cousins. Next year, I plan to establish several apiaries and begin my beekeeping journey closer to home.
