Since embarking on my journey in Africa, I've developed a strong appreciation for the importance of having a fire extinguisher at home. I can't help but wonder if this is a common practice in Singapore as well. Without a fire extinguisher close at hand, I feel uneasy.
In Africa, I made sure that every room had one, not just because of the risk of fire, but also due to the prevalence of crime. To protect against burglary, all houses were equipped with fixed iron grills on every window, a precautionary measure stemming from the region's history of instability. However, while these grills provided a sense of security, they also presented a potential hazard in the event of a fire, as they prevented one from escaping through a window.
Given my experiences, the importance of these safety practices has become ingrained in me.

Prevention is better than cure.
