A Thousand Mile Journey.....

Updated: Mar 28, 2023

In December, I had the pleasure of meeting with Anthony, who flew into Singapore specifically to see me upon my return. Originally from Vietnam, he had left for Canada many years ago, but has since returned to his village with the goal of developing a honey enterprise to raise the income level for local residents. As the title suggests, we are at the first step of this journey.

One of the most important aspects of starting a commercially viable social enterprise is logistics. Therefore, the first task at hand is to clear land for transportation. Over the past two months, workers have been employed to create a proper road for us to access the villages. This reminded me of a similar experience I had in Uganda back in 2000, a memory that I often enjoy recounting.

Our ultimate goal is to establish a beekeeping training center in this idyllic location, where the villagers can learn and practice professional beekeeping skills to improve their income. This will not only benefit the community but also promote sustainable beekeeping practices in the region. We are excited to embark on this journey and make a positive impact in the lives of these people.

This upcoming project is definitely going to be one of the most exciting challenges I've encountered throughout my beekeeping journey, especially since it's closer to home. It's true that difficult times don't last forever, but resilient individuals always do.
