Preparing for training programs for both children and adults requires a responsible approach. I have witnessed some training programs where children were allowed to engage with honeybees without proper protection. Although our local bees are not as aggressive as their African counterparts, they still need to be respected. Proper training and education are essential for safely working with bees. It is important never to take honeybees for granted, as they can still sting. Even stingless bees can bite, even though they lack a stinger. Nature has its own way of protection.
For adults, it is our responsibility to take care of ourselves and those around us, particularly children. The bees may not sting today, but the story could be different tomorrow. Whenever I work with African farmers in villages, I always wear my bee suit. It's not that I am afraid of the bees. Instead, I position myself to be the target when they turn aggressive so that the rest of the villagers can run for shelter. There is a difference between respect and fear.
